In the small town of Pikeville, a family matriarch has died unexpectedly. As the funeral is planned, her never married “junque” shop owner son and his better-heeled sister come to terms with a lifetime of unresolved issues. Their relationship is complicated when extended family gathers to “help” them, bringing dysfunctions of their own. Missed or no communication, clashing expectations and silly accusations make for a story that is often funny, occasionally uncomfortable, yet somehow familiar. After all, what family doesn’t have a little “junque” in its past?
Roles are available for four females (20, 50’s-60’s) and three males, (20’s, 40’s-50’s).
CHARACTER BREAKDOWNS:
Marlon Dalton: (40’s) An unmarried man who runs Dalton’s Junque and Antiques. He’s grieving the loss of his mother who was also his business partner. The two were very close and he’s having a difficult time. However, he’s also trying to be the glue which holds his fractured family
together.
Camille VanDemeter: (late 40’s) Marlon’s older sister. She’s married well, has a little money and is a bit of a snob. Camille had a difficult relationship with her mother and makes no secret of it.
Roger VanDemeter: (50 ish) Camille’s husband. Good looking, but detached and a bit arrogant. Yet, he loves Camille and will do anything to protect her interests...those she deserves and those
she perhaps does not.
Felicity VanDemeter: (20ish) Camille and Roger’s daughter. She’s a beautiful but immature college junior who’s enjoying life at a large university. She’s come home to be with her family, but is itching to get back to school; not for finals, but for a sorority party.
Brick Dressel: (20’s) Felicity’s boyfriend. Brick is a big and burley college football jock who is none too smart. However, he has occasional, and surprising, moments of insight.
Lynn Strickler: (60’s) Pushy, rude and superior, Lynn is the sister of the deceased and, therefore, Marlon and Camille’s Aunt. She attended to her sister until the moment of her death. That’s
when she could hold her tongue no more.
Gracie Hobeck: (early 50’s) Lynn’s baby sister. Gracie is an attractive, much-married, and over medicated, cougar who has designs on Brick!
Performances are on April 4, 5, 6, 11 & 12 @ 7:30pm. Matinees on April 6 & 13 @ 2:00pm.
